| What is Blood Pressure? | is the force or pressure that carries blood to all parts of the body. A blood pressure reading is the pressure that blood puts on the walls of arteries. Upper reading is systolic (sis-tall-ik) and the lower reading is the diastolic (di-uh-stall-ik)

| Why do you need to take your blood pressure? | to see if the patient is hemodynamically stable, it means that he/she has a stable heart pump and good circulation of blood

| Why should you talk to the client? | so that they will feel relaxed and in less stress

| When not to take a BP reading? | soon after smoking or having caffeine

| Why must the patient be quiet during this process? | to hear the sounds * speaking raises BP

| If you cannot hear the sounds what to do? | check your instrument * ask an RN for help

| What should you do before taking a BP reading? | Hand hygeine * consent * tell them what you are going to do * document

| What should you do after taking a BP reading? | clean the equipment

| Diastole | cannot hear anymore - ventricles are relaxing * fill with blood *

| Systolic | It measures the amount of pressure that blood exerts on arteries and vessels while the heart is beating * Left ventricles contract
