• Similar environments cause similar characteristics due to how they have evolved eg dolphins and sharks

| How does natural selection work? | Individuals with characteristics suited to the environment they live in are more likely to survive than those who don't have these characteristics, they will breed successfully and pass on their genes to offspring and all future generations

| What is a mutation? | A change in an organism's DNA

| How do mutations get passed on? | They produce a useful characteristic- this would over time accumulate in a large population e.g. bacteria resistance

• Not much evidence
• So Darwin couldn't fully explain why it happened
