Question
Answer
What is the theory of evolution?   More than 3 million years ago life on Earth was simple organisms that evolved in to complex organisms
🗑
What are the tree types of organisms and how do we know what they are?   • Plants- use photosynthesis and grow in the ground • Animals- move and can't make their own food • Microorganisms- bacteria single celled
🗑
What are the evolutionary relationships?(2)   • Similar genes cause similar characteristics due to the same common recent ancestors • Similar environments cause similar characteristics due to how they have evolved eg dolphins and sharks
🗑
What are the ecological relationships?(2)   • Similar organisms in similar environments suggest they might be in competition for food etc • Differences in characteristics in the same environment can show predator-prey relationships
🗑
How does natural selection work?   Individuals with characteristics suited to the environment they live in are more likely to survive than those who don't have these characteristics, they will breed successfully and pass on their genes to offspring and all future generations
🗑
What is a mutation?   A change in an organism's DNA
🗑
How do mutations get passed on?   They produce a useful characteristic- this would over time accumulate in a large population e.g. bacteria resistance
🗑
Why was Darwin called gay by his mates?   • Went against religion • Not much evidence • So Darwin couldn't fully explain why it happened
