Question
Answer
Where does the Earth get energy from?   The sun.
🗑
How do green plants and algae use this energy? Where do they store it?   To make food during photosynthesis. They store it in the substances that make their cells.
🗑
How else can energy disappear?   It is lost through heat energy because many animals require it to be a certain temperature (greater than their surroundings).
🗑
How can material and energy be lost in the food chain?   Through waste materials and inedible material.
🗑
How does this loss of energy show in biomass pyramids?   The further up you go the less energy there is because the more energy has been used up in waste and inedible materials throughout the chain.
🗑
How else can the loss of energy explain biomass pyramids?   It explains how there are only ever maximum 5 levels in the pyramid because the excess energy is lost at each stage until there is none left.
