Structure and Property of Matter

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Term
Definition
Substance   Any form of matter that is uniform throughout and has consistent properties.
🗑
Crystal   Solid material whose atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in an ordered pattern.
🗑
Molecule   Two or more atoms held strongly together by covalent bonds.
🗑
Atom   The building blocks of all matter; the smallest unit that retains the chemical properties of an element.
🗑
Solid   A state of matter with a definite volume and shape.
🗑
Chemical Reaction   The process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more different substances.
🗑
Matter   Has mass and takes up space and occurs as elements, compounds, and mixtures.
🗑
Solubility   Measurement of the ability of a solid to dissolve in a liquid.
🗑
Chemical Properties   Characteristics that can only be observed or measured when atoms of matter rearrange during a chemical change.
🗑
Synthetic Materials   Materials made by humans.
🗑
Density   The amount of matter in a given space or volume; it is a relationship between mass and volume. Less dense matter will form layers above dense matter.
🗑
Pure Substance   A single substance, either an element or a compound, with definite composition and properties.
🗑
Natural Resources   Resources that exist in the environment without human intervention.
🗑
Bulk Quantities   Large Quantities
🗑
Physical Properties   Characteristics that can be observed or measured without changing the substance, such as color, melting point, or conductivity.
🗑
Liquid   A state of matter with a definite volume but no definite shape.
🗑
Vibrate   To move rhythmically and steadily; oscillate.
🗑
Gas   A form of matter with indefinite shape and volume.
🗑
Atom   The smallest particle of an element made of electrons, protons, and neutrons.
🗑
Collide   To strike or hit something with great force.
🗑
Inert   Used to describe a substance that is not chemically reactive.
🗑
Thermal Energy   It is the total kinetic (motion) energy of tiny particles that make up matter. The faster the particles move, the warmer the matter becomes.
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
