March 2017 Science

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Term
Definition
concentration   the amount of material dissolved in a measure of a liquid; adding more material will make solution more concentrated-UNTIL solution gets saturated
🗑
dilute   to make a solution less concentrated, usually by adding more liquid
🗑
volume   the three-dimensional space occupied by liquid
🗑
chemical reaction   when two or more mixtures are mixed together and a change occurs, such as: bubbling, temperature change, property change, new material is formed (like a precipitate)
🗑
precipitate   solid material that is made as a product of a reaction
🗑
change   the process of becoming something new
🗑
reactants   the chemicals that react when mixed together
🗑
mixture   when you stir two or more materials together; ALL mixtures can be separated
🗑
solution   a SPECIAL mixture made when material dissolves in water (dissolving MUST happen!
🗑
property   characteristics of an object; something you can observe such as color, shape, size, and texture
🗑
dissolving   process when material spreads throughout another material; seems to disappear; Temperature effects dissolving (Heat makes material dissolve faster.)
🗑
crystal   the solid of a material that can be identified by its properties such as shape, color, and pattern; The salt crystal is square with an X corner to corner. (Other crystals: sugar crystals, snowflake crystals)
🗑
evaporation   the change from a liquid to a gas; this is one way to separate some solutions
🗑
salt solution   one part of the salt solution is the solvent and the other part is the solute; can be separated by evaporating
🗑
solute   the material that dissolves
🗑
solvent   the liquid into which the solid material goes into (The universal solvent is water!)
🗑
saturation   when solid material (the solute) is added until NO more will dissolve AND there is material on the bottom
🗑
solubility   the property substances have of dissolving in solvents, such as the solubility of salt in water
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
