Unit 5 Bio Vocab

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Term
Definition
Monomer   The smallest part of the molecule; the building block.
🗑
Polymer   The longer/larger molecule that is made up of smaller parts.
🗑
Diffusion   Particles randomly move from close together to far apart based on energy resulting in even distribution with continual motion. (Particles move from high to low concentration).
🗑
Osmosis   The movement of water across a barrier (a selectively permeable membrane). Water is small; easily travels; equilibrium
🗑
Selectively Permeable Membrane   Lets certain particles pass through the membrane easily.
🗑
Active Transport   Molecules which are too big to pass through SP membrane are passed through by using special structures, this takes energy. This takes low to high concentration; against the gradient.
🗑
Hypertonic Solution   Higher concentration of particles outside of the cell in the solution (liquid) than inside of the cell.
🗑
Hypotonic Solution   Lower concentration of particles outside of the cell in the solution than inside the cell.
🗑
Equilibrium   Particles are moving equally into the cell as they are outside of the cell. (Continual equal motion)
🗑
Isotonic Solution   Equal particles in solution as inside the cell. Already at equilibrium.
🗑
Organelles   Organized or specialized structures in the cell. Ex: Lysosomes, Mitochondrion, and etc.
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
