Definition
Mosses and Relatives   Have no roots. Instead have small root-like structures called rhizoids. Grow in mats of low, tangled vegetation that can hold water like a sponge.
🗑
Bryophytes   Common in moist, shady areas. Sphnagum moss is valuable as it is highly water absorbent and nutrient rich (peat moss).
🗑
Ferns and Relatives   Have vascular tissue. Grow taller and live in a wider range of habitats compared to mosses. Whisk fern, club mosses, horsetails.
🗑
Cone-bearing Plants   They have roots, stems and leaves. They have seeds exposed on the surface of cones.
🗑
Angiosperms   Grow and develop seeds that are enclosed within a fruit. Trees, shrubs, grasses, etc.
🗑
Pistil   Female reproductive organ.
🗑
Pollination Adaptation   Most methods involve birds, insects, bats, etc. Colour, shape and scent of the flower helps the pollinator recognise the source of food.
🗑
Self-Pollination   Produces genetically identical offspring.
🗑
Seed Structure   The hard case of the seed allows the embryo inside to survive adverse conditions such as dry & hot conditions.
