Light Dependent Reactions and Calvin Cycle

Step 2 of Light Reactions   Electrons from photosystem 1 move down an electron transport chain and get added to NADP+ to make NADPH.

Step 3 of Light Reactions   Electrons from Photosystem 2 move down another electron transport chain, pumping H+ ions into the thylakoid lumen, and replacing the lost electrons from Photosystem 1.

Step 4 of Light Reactions   Water is split by light producing 2 electrons, 2 hydrogen ions, and oxygen. The electrons replace those lost in photosystem 2, the oxygen leaves as waste, the hydrogen stays in the lumen.

Step 5 of Light Reactions   H+ ions move out of the lumen through ATP synthase. The energy of that movement helps ATP synthase produce ATP from ADP molecules.

Step 6 of Light Reactions   Both ATP and NADPH head to the stroma to be used in the Calvin Cycle.

Step 1 of Calvin Cycle   3 molecules of Carbon Dioxide are added to three 5-carbon molecules of RuBP to produce six 3-carbon molecules of 3PG.

Step 2 of Calvin Cycle   the six 3PG molecules get energy from ATP and NADPH and turn into six molecules of G3P.

Step 3 of Calvin Cycle   One of the G3P's leaves the Calvin cycle to join with another G3P to produce glucose.

Step 4 of Calvin Cycle   the five remaining G3P's get energy from ATP and rearrange back into the 3 RuBP molecules we started with.
