Atomic Structure

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Term
Definition
Neutron   A neutron is a subatomic particle located inside the nucleus of an atom. It has 0 charge, its neutral. Weight = 1.
🗑
Proton   A proton is a subatomic particle located inside the nucleus of an atom. It is positively charged (+). Weight = 1
🗑
Electron   An electron is a subatomic particle outside the nucleus, orbiting in energy levels/electron shells. It is negatively charged (-). It is very small and light and weight = 0, almost nothing. It is able to be lost or gained during a chemical reaction.
🗑
Nucleus   The nucleus is a dense core in the center of the atom. It is dense because it contains all the mass of the atom in a small space. It contains protons and neutrons and is positively charged because of protons. It is the weight of the atom.
🗑
Electron Shell   The electron shell has a maximum capacity. The 1st shell can hold 2 electrons, 2nd shell can hold 8 electrons and the 3rd shell can hold 8 electrons.
🗑
Atom Electrical Charge   The atom of the element contains equal numbers of protons and electrons and so have no overall charge
🗑
Subatomic Particles   Particles which make up an atom (protons, neutrons, electrons) are called subatomic particles.
🗑
Atomic Arrangement   - electrons come in pairs - go in quadrants

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
