Term
Definition
Plasma Membrane   the flexible boundary between the cell and its environment ,to allow a steady supply of nutrients to come into the cell no matter what the external conditions are.
🗑
Diffusion   Random movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration ,eventually resulting in even distribution .
🗑
Osmosis   The diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane.
🗑
Isotonic Solution   Concentration of dissolved substances in the solution is the same as the concentration or dissolved substances inside the cell.
🗑
Hypotonic Solution   The concentration of dissolved substances is lower in the solution outside the cell than the concentration inside the cell.
🗑
Hypertonic Solution   The concentration of dissolved substances outside the cell is higher than the concentration inside the cell.
🗑
Passive Transport   Movement of particles across cell membranes by diffusion or osmosis ;the cell uses no energy to move particles across the membrane.
🗑
Facilitated Diffusion   Passive transport of materials across the membrane using transport proteins.
🗑
Active Transport   Movement of materials through a membrane against a concentration gradient .
🗑
Endocytosis   A process by which a cell surrounds and takes in material from its environment .
🗑
Exocytosis   The explosion or secretion of material from a cell.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
