Tablet   Comes as compression, multiple compression, chewable, oral disintegrating, and caplet with possible coatings: sugar coated, film coated, enteric coated, and buffered for different purposes and release delivery modes.

Capsule   Available in hard and soft gelatin and is transparent, semitransparent, or opaque.

Oral liquid   Comes as solution, syrup, suspension, elixir, emulsion, magma, colloid, aromatic water, fluidextract, solid extract, tincture, or spirit.

Powders (for reconstitution)   Due to short expiration dates of some drugs as liquids, the active ingredient is supplied as a powder or effervescent tablet with instructions on how much water or other suitable liquid is to be mixed with the drug for a given concentration.

Buccal   Transmucosal route of administration for gum, tablet, lozenge (trouche), and lollipop.

Sublingual   Available usually as tablets and sprays, though compounding pharmacies and homeopathic practitioners may have solutions in which a given number of drops are placed under the tongue.
