Term
Definition
Alveoli   Spherical air sacs where gases pass into and from the blood
🗑
Artery   A blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the body
🗑
Capillary   The smallest blood vessel. Gases, nutrients, and wastes are exchanged between capillaries and cells.
🗑
Circulatory System   The system of blood vessels and organs that transports blood to all cells in the body
🗑
Classify   To identify and organize according to similar properties or other criteria
🗑
Diaphragm   A large, flat, arched muscle that draws air in as well as pushes air out of the lungs.
🗑
Heart   A muscular organ that pumps blood.
🗑
Heart Valve   A regulator that moves blood in one direction, ensuring that it does not pump the wrong way in the system.
🗑
Leaf Vein   The branching network of tiny raised lines on the underside of a leaf.
🗑
Left Ventricle   The lower chamber on the left side of the heart.
🗑
Lung   The organ in animals where gases, such as oxygen and carbon dioxide, pass between the atmosphere and the blood.
🗑
Palmate   Describing a leaf in which several veins start at one point near the base. The veins look like fingers of a hand.
🗑
Parallel   Describing a leaf in which the veins are straight lines all running in the same direction.
🗑
Phloem   The long cells which nutrients, such as sugars, are distributed in a plant
🗑
Pinnate   Describing a leaf that has one main vein with smaller veins branching off sideways from it
🗑
Respiratory System   The system of lungs and connecting tubes that transports oxygen to the red blood cells and gets rid of carbon dioxide.
🗑
Right Ventricle   The lower chamber on the right side of the heart
🗑
Sap   A sugar-rich liquid transported by phloem
🗑
Transpiration   The process in which water is removed from the cells and passes into the enviornment
🗑
Vascular Bundle   The group of xylem tubes and phloem tubes in a vascular plant
🗑
Vascular System   Keeps fluids moving throughout the entire system, maintaining a moist (aquatic) environment for all cells
🗑
Vein   The blood vessel that carries blood from the body to the heart
🗑
Vital Capacity   The maximum volume of air a person can take into their lungs then expel
🗑
Xylem   The hollow cells of a plant that transport water and minerals to plant cells

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
