heart   An organ made of cardiac muscle that acts as a pump to move blood around your body.

blood vessel   The tubes that carry blood throughout the body.

vein   Type of blood vessel that carries blood TOWARD the heart (or INTO the heart).

artery   Type of blood vessel that carries blood AWAY FROM the heart (or OUT OF the heart).

cardiovascular   Another name for the circulatory system (1st part means heart and 2nd part means 'fluids and vessels').

capillary   "Microscopic blood vessels that are only one cell thick

white blood cell   "Cells in blood that fight bacteria

red blood cell   "Cells in blood that carry oxygen  
🗑
plasma   The liquid part of blood (mostly made up of water) that carries nutrients.

platelets   Irregularly shaped blood cells that help blood to clot where there is a cut or injury. They stick together and dry up to form a scab.

ventricle   The name of the 2 bottom chambers of the heart.

atrium   The name of the 2 top chambers of the heart.

oxygen   "A gas needed by our bodies for respiration

cardiac muscle   The type of muscle that makes up the heart.

waste   "Substances that your body no longer needs
