---|---|---|---|---|---|
What is water vapor? | A gas.
🗑
Seismic waves | What earthquakes produce when they occur.
🗑
Rock samples | The rocks give geologists clues about Earth's structure and conditions deep inside Earth.
🗑
What are the Earth's layers from outside to inside? | Crust, mantle, and core.
🗑
Radiation | The transfer of energy that is carried in rays like light.
🗑
Conduction | Heat transfer between materials that are touching.
🗑
Convection | Heat transfer by the movement of a fluid.
🗑
What is the thickest layer of the Earth? | The mantle.
🗑
What part of the Earth's layers contain the most mass? | The mantle.
🗑
What is Earth's inner core made up of? | Iron and nickel.
🗑
What part of Earth contains plates. | The lithosphere.
🗑
What is the theory of plate tectonics? | Earth's plates are in slow, constant motion, driven by convection currents in the mantle.
🗑
What produces Earth's magnetic field? | Movements in the liquid in the outer core.
🗑
What are the four main spheres, and how do they interact with each other. | The A, G, H, and B are the main spheres. The A contains Earth's weather. When it rains or snows, the G gets affected by changing land forms. The H can get flooded by the water and snow. This would flood habitats for the B and make food hard to find.
🗑
What is the difference between oceanic and continental crust? | The oceanic crust is thin and has a dark color. The Continental crust is thick with and has a light color.
🗑
What layer is made up of crust and partly mantle material? | The lithosphere.
🗑
Where is the asthenosphere located? | Below the lithosphere.
🗑
Describe how pressure increases as the depth increases. | Because of the weight of the rock above, pressure inside Earth increases with depth.
🗑
What layer has the most pressure on it? | The core.
🗑
What are some differences and similarities, between the inner core and the outer core? | The inner core is a ball. The outer core is a layer. They are both squeezed with pressure. The inner core is solid metal. The outer core is liquid metal.
🗑
What are some differences between conduction, convection, and radiation? | Radiation is transfers energy, while conduction and convection transfer heat. Conduction transfers heat with materials touching. Convection transfers heat with the movement of fluid.
🗑
How is heat transferred inside Earth through convection currents | Heat from the core and the mantle itself.
🗑
What causes tectonic plates to move? | Convection currents.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
To hide a column, click on the column name.
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
