Photosynthesis and Respiration Vocabulary

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Term
Definition
Carbon/Oxygen Cycle   A cycle of matter in which carbon dioxide and oxygen are cycled by the process of photosynthesis and respiration.
🗑
Photosynthesis   A process by which most autotrophs use the light energy from the Sun to make their own food. Chemical equation: 6(CO2) + 6(H2O) + Light -> C6H12O6 + 6(O2)
🗑
Respiration   A process by which all organisms (including autotrophs) break down food in order to obtain energy. Chemical equation: C6H12O6 + 6(O2) -> 6(CO2) + (6H2O) + Energy
🗑
Chemical Equation   A representation of what occurs in a chemical reaction using the symbols for the chemicals involved.
🗑
Reactants   The left side of a chemical equation; these chemicals combine together through the reaction to make the new products.
🗑
Products   The right side of a chemical equation; these chemicals are the result of the chemical reaction.
🗑
Glucose   The energy-containing chemical (sugar) produced through photosynthesis: C6H12O6
🗑
Stomata   Pores or openings on the underside of leaves; they open to take in CO2 and release O2. H20 is lost as water vapor through transpiration
🗑
Mitochondrion   A rod-shaped cell structure in which cellular respiration occurs so that the cell has the energy needed to carry out its life functions
🗑
Chloroplast   An elongated cell structure containing chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place.
🗑
Chlorophyll   A green molecule in the chloroplast which uses light energy from the Sun to change water and carbon dioxide into sugar and oxygen.
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
