Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Term
Definition
Activation Energy   The minimum quantity of energy that the reacting species must possess in order to undergo a specified reaction.
🗑
Biochemical Reaction   The transformation of one molecule to a different molecule inside a cell.
🗑
Coenzyme   A non-protein compound that is necessary for the functioning of an enzyme.
🗑
Competitive Inhibitor   A form of enzyme inhibition where binding of the inhibitor to the active site on the enzyme prevents binding of the substrate and vice versa.
🗑
Enzyme   A substance produced by a living organism that acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction.
🗑
Enzyme Activity   The amount that catalyzes the conversion of 1 micro mole of substrate per minute.
🗑
Enzyme Concentration   Concentration of enzymes.
🗑
Heavy Metal   A metal of relatively high density, or of high relative atomic weight. Poisonous if ingested.
🗑
Induced Fit Model   A proposed mechanism of interaction between an enzyme and a substrate. It postulates that exposure of an enzyme to a substrate causes the active site of the enzyme to change shape in order to allow the enzyme and substrate to bind.
🗑
Metabolism   The chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life.
🗑
Non-competitive Inhibitor   A type of enzyme inhibition where the inhibitor reduces the activity of the enzyme and binds equally well to the enzyme whether or not it has already bound the substrate.
🗑
pH   Measurement of how acidic or basic a chemical is.
🗑
Substrate   The substance on which an enzyme acts.
🗑
substrate concentration   Concentration of substrates.
🗑
thyroid   A large ductless gland in the neck that secretes hormones regulating growth and development through the rate of metabolism.
🗑
thyroxin   The main hormone produced by the thyroid gland, acting to increase metabolic rate and so regulating growth and development.
🗑
vitamins   Any of a group of organic compounds that are essential for normal growth and nutrition and are required in small quantities in the diet because they cannot be synthesized by the body. They are a type of coenzyme.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
