SLS Bio11 Genetics TZ

        Help!

Term
Definition
Allele   One of the possible types of a gene. Most genes have a dominant and recessive one.
🗑
Autosome   Any chromosome that is not a sex chromosome.
🗑
Codominance   Is when two genes are evenly shown
🗑
Dihydrid   An organism that is heterozygous for 2 traits
🗑
Dominant Allele   It is more influential over the recessive allele
🗑
Genotype   An organism's unique genetics
🗑
Heterozygous   having a recessive and dominant allele. Two differents ones
🗑
Homozygous   “Homo” Having the same alleles
🗑
Monohybrid   hybrid that is heterozygous for one trait
🗑
Multiple Allele   There are more than 2 alleles
🗑
Phenotype   appearance that is the way it is because of the environment and genotype
🗑
Punnet Square   a machine used to forecast the product of easy genetic crosses
🗑
Recessive Allele   innate factor shown in phenotype but only when genotype is homozygous
🗑
Sex Chromosome   chromosome that decides sex so either male XY or female XX
🗑
Sex-linked Trait   a certain trait that is with the sex chromosome but not to do with sexual stuff
🗑
Test Cross   crossing of the dominant and recessive phenotype
🗑
Apoptosis   the cell dies because a lot of cellular events have pushed the cell to dying
🗑
Cell Cycle   a cycle that has cell growth as well as division
🗑
Centriole   Is cell organelle. Found in pairs. Can organize spindle fibres during division
🗑
Centromere   area where sister chromatids bind to each other where fibres attach
🗑
Chromatin   Holds DNA. Is what chromosomes are made of
🗑
Chromosome   Hold your genes. See during division
🗑
Crossing-Over   transfer of genes between homologous chromosome .Makes offspring unique
🗑
Cytokinesis   splitting of the cell in either meiosis or mitosis
🗑
Diploid(2n)   double # of chromosomes in gametes
🗑
Chromosome Number   characteristic # of chromosome in cell in certain species
🗑
Gamete   sexual reproduction cell that makes zygote
🗑
Haploid(n) Chromosome Number   haploid number (n) is the # of chromosomes in a gamete
🗑
Homologous Chromosomes   Chromosomes that pair up for meiosis
🗑
Meiosis   a type of cell division used for sexual reproduction
🗑
Mitosis   cell division where daughter has same genetic makeup. Used for growth and repair.
🗑
Nondisjunction   homologous chromosomes failing to split during meiosis
🗑
Somatic Cell   Any cell that is not a reproductive cell
🗑
Synapsis   homologous chromosomes pair in meiosis in prophase 1
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
