Term
Definition
Matter   everything around you
🗑
Atoms   the smallest bit of matter
🗑
Molecule   two or more atoms make a molecule
🗑
Solid   a state of matter that holds it's shape because the molecules are tightly packed
🗑
Liquid   A state of matter that is able to flow
🗑
Gas   A state of matter where the molecules are spread out
🗑
Mass   Measured in grams. the amount of matter an object has
🗑
Volume   How much space matter takes up
🗑
Density   A way to measure how tightly packed the atoms and molecules are in an object
🗑
Properties of air   Air has mass, volume, density and weight. air is a gas and exerts pressure
🗑
Air Pressure   The weight of the atmosphere pressing down on earth
🗑
Gravity   A force that pull an object
🗑
Pressure   A force that pushes and object
🗑
Atmosphere   A mixture of gases that surrounds a planet
🗑
Altitude   The distance above earths surface. As altitude increases in the troposphere and pressure decreases.
🗑
Composition of Earths atmosphere   Earth’s atmosphere consists of 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, and 1% of other trace gases like argon and carbon dioxide. Besides these gases, the atmosphere also consists of solids like volcanic ash, pollen, sea salt, and dust.
🗑
Troposphere   The lowest layer of the atmosphere. Densest layer of the atmosphere that is the closest to the Earth’s surface. Weather occurs there. As altitude increases, air pressure decreases. As altitude increases, temperature decreases.
🗑
Stratosphere   Layer of the atmosphere above the Troposphere. The Ozone Layer is located at the top of this layer. Ozone protects us from receiving too much of the sun’s radiation.
