Limiting Factors   Environmental conditions that limit the growth, abundance, or distribution of an organism or a population of organisms in an ecosystem.
🗑
Density-dependent limiting factor   A factor whose effects on the size or growth of population vary with the population density. As the population increases, food become scarce, infectious diseases can spread easily, and many of its members emigrate. (predation, disease, migration)
🗑
Density-independent limiting factor   Any factor limiting the size of a population whose effect is not dependent on the number of individuals in the population. ex: An earthquake, which will kill all members of the population regardless of whether the population is small or large.
🗑
Competition   Interaction between organisms or species in which the fitness of one is lowered by the presence of another. Limited supply of at least one resource (such as food, water, and territory) used by both can be a factor. (fight for the other as a resource)
