Atmosphere   A mixture of gases that surrounds a planet or moon.
🗑
Air pressure   The measure of the force that air molecules put on a surface, greatest in the Troposphere.
🗑
Troposphere   Lowest layer of the atmosphere; temperature decreases at a constant rate as altitude increases and contains 21% Oxygen.
🗑
Stratosphere   Layer of the atmosphere above the troposphere where temperature increases as altitude increases and the ozone layer is located.
🗑
Mesosphere   The layer of the atmosphere between the stratosphere and the thermosphere and in which temperature decreases as altitude increases - coldest layer.
🗑
Thermosphere   The uppermost layer of the atmosphere, in which temperature increases as altitude increases - hottest layer.
🗑
Ionosphere   An area between the Mesosphere and the Thermosphere where particles become electrically charged - Aurora's occur here.
🗑
Thermal Conduction   The transfer of energy as heat through a material.
🗑
Convection   The transfer of thermal energy by the circulation or movement of a liquid or gas.
🗑
Greenhouse effect   The natural warming of Earth's atmosphere when carbon dioxide, and water vapor absorb and reradiate thermal energy.
🗑
Global Warming/Climate Change   A gradual increase in average global temperatures brought on by too much carbon dioxide.
🗑
wind   The movement of air caused by differences in air pressure.
🗑
Polar Easterlies   Prevailing winds that blow from east to west between 60° and 90° latitude in both hemispheres.
🗑
Westerlies   Prevailing winds that blow from west to east between 30° and 60° latitude in both hemispheres.
