| Neutrophils | Granulocytes; account for about 55% of all WBCs; phagocytes: important for destroying bacteria, viruses, and toxins in blood.

| Eosinphils | Granulocytes; account for about 3% of all WBCs; effective in getting rid of viruses and parasitic infections (eg., worms); help control inflammation and allergic reactions.

| Basophils | Granulocytes; account for less than 1% of all WBCs; release substances like histamine (promotes inflammation) and heparin (anticoagulant).

| Monocytes | Agranulocytes; account for about 8% of all WBCs; important for destroying bacteria, viruses, and toxins in blood; formed in bone marrow; short-lived.

| Lymphocytes | Agranulocytes; account for about 33% of all WBCs; provide immunity for the body; formed in lymphatic tissue.

| Antibodies | AKA immunoglobulin; helps identify and neutralize bacteria, viruses, and anything attacking your immune system; highly specific proteins that attach themselves to foreign substances to destroy them.

| Agranulocytes | Do not have granules in their cytoplasms; consists of monocytes and lymphocytes

| Granulocytes | Have granules in their cytoplasms; consists of neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils
