Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA)   describes a set of highly related glycoproteins involved in cell adhesion. CEA is normally produced in gastrointestinal tissue during fetal development, but the production stops before birth.

Dehiscence   a surgical complication in which a wound ruptures along surgical suture.

Tenesmus   Straining to defecate or urinate.

Volvulus   rotation and twisting of the cecum toward the left upper quadrant, with ascending colon obstruction; associated with a cecum on a long mesentery.
