Term
Definition
Matter   Anything that takes up space.
🗑
Pure Substance   Matter that contains only one kind of particle.
🗑
Mixture   Matter that contains two or more pure substances mixed together.
🗑
Homogeneous   A mixture that looks like a single pure substance, a uniform mixture of 2 or more pure substances.
🗑
Heterogeneous   A mixture with different parts that you can see.
🗑
Solution   A solution is another name for a homogeneous mixture.
🗑
Mechanical Mixture   A mechanical mixture is another name for a heterogeneous mixture.
🗑
Chemistry   The study of matter and it's changes.
🗑
4 main points of the particle theory   1. All matter is made up of tiny particles. 2. Particles have empty spaces between them. 3. Even though you cannot see them, the particles are moving all the time. 4. Particles move faster and spread farther when they are heated.
🗑
Last main point of the particle theory   5. Particles attract each other so they tend to stay together rather than fly apart.
🗑
Particles of a solid   The particles of a solid are closely packed together. The particles stay in the same positions but they vibrate all the time.
🗑
Particles of a liquid   The particles of a liquid are still close together but they can move around each other in all directions.
🗑
Particles of a gas   The particles of a gas are very far apart. They have lots of energy and move very fast in all directions. The particles can even leave their container if it is not sealed.
🗑
Particle theory of matter   An explanation of what matter is made of and how it behaves, the particle theory states that all matter is made up of tiny particles that are always moving, that attract each other, and that have space between them.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
