Medicaid   Government provided medical assistance for low income pt's.

Ombudsman   Legal advocate for pt's in a nursing home. *Investigates complaints*

Restorative Care   Care given to assist a pt to maintain optimum functioning after rehab care.

OBRA   Law which sets up standards for nursing homes and nurse aide training.

MDS   Minimum Data Set. Form which allows assessment of LTCF (long term care facility) pt.

HIPPA   Law which mandates confidentiality about medical information or records for pt.

Comfort Care   Care provided to dying pt's, Includes only things that will keep pt warm, dry, and comfortable. *NO HEROIC MEASURES*

Life Support   Using ventilator, CPR, cardiac medications and other aggressive methods to keep pt alive.

Resuscication   Providing breaths and chest compression's for a pt without breathing or also a pulse.
