Rock Cycle 2014

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Nonfoliated   A class of metamorphic rocks that are characterized by minerals that form with blocky crystal shapes.
🗑
Igneous   Rocks that are formed from cooled lava or magma and minerals that crystalize.
🗑
Rock Cycle   Also called the geological cycle. A series of events in which a rock of one type is converted to one or more other types and then eventually back to the original type.
🗑
Clastic   Sedimentary rocks that are formed from abundant deposits of lose sediments that accumulate on the Earth's surface.
🗑
Mineral   Any of a class of naturally occurring solid inorganic substances with a characteristic crystalline form and a homogeneous chemical deposition.
🗑
Extrusive   Igneous rocks that are formed when lava on the surface of the earth cools rapidly not allowing large crystals to grow,
🗑
Intrusive   Igneous rocks that are formed when magma below the surface of the earth is able to cool slowly and allows large crystal grains to grow.
🗑
Organic Rock   Rocks that contain large amounts of carbon that came from matter that was once living.
🗑
Sedimentary   Rocks formed when sediment is deposited and becomes tightly compacted. Depending on the origin of the sediments they contain, sedimentary rocks can be classified into different groups.
🗑
Foliated   A class of metamorphic rocks that is characterized by layers and bands of minerals that are formed perpendicular to the pressure applied to the rock.
🗑
Weathering   Any of the chemical or mechanical processes by which rocks exposed to the weather undergo changes character and break down.
🗑
Cementation   Mineral growth that glues sediment grains together into solid rock.
🗑
Evaporites   Layers of chemical sedimentary rocks that form when sediments precipitate out of water that is saturated with that mineral.
🗑
Conglomerate   Coarse graned sedimentary rocks whose constituent grains have been rounded from the erosion that occurred.
🗑
Breccia   Coarse grained sedimentary rocks who constituent grains are angular, with sharp points that were not worn down from erosion.
🗑
Lithification   The process by which loose mineral fragments or particles of sand are solidified into stone.
🗑
Erosion   The wearing away and transportation of rocks and other deposits on the earth's surface by the action of water, ice, or wind.
🗑
Metamorphic   Rocks are formed when igneous, sedimentary, or other metamorphic rocks undergo a physical change due to extreme heat and pressure. These changes often produce folded layers or banding in the rocks, and they can cause pockets of precious minerals.
🗑
Deposition   The accumulation or laying down of matter by a natural processes, as the laying down of sediments in a river.
🗑
Crystallization   A rock formed by the solidification of a substance; has regularly repeating internal structure; external plane faces.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
