Exposition   The part of the story that introduces the setting, characters, and conflict.

Protagonist   Another name for the main character or hero in the story.

Antagonist   Another name for the character who opposes the main character.

Point of View   The position of the narrator in a story.

Plot   Series of events that occur in a story.

Rising Action   Series of events that builds up to the climax in the story.

Climax   The turning point of a story, which is most often also the most exciting part of the story.

Tone   The mood of a story or the feeling you get from it.

Third Person   The point of view that the narrator uses the pronouns "he," "she," or "it" or uses the characters names to tell the story.

Third Person Limited   The point of view that the narrator only follows one main character throughout the story.

Third Person Omniscient   The point of view that the narrator gives information about information about multiple characters thoughts and actions that the main character may not be aware of.

Third Person Objective   The point of view that the narrator does not give you any of the character's thoughts or feelings. From this perspective, the narrator only tells you the actions and dialogue.

Verb   Part of speech that shows action or state of being.

Action Verb   The type of verb that shows action.

Linking Verb   The type of verb that shows its state of being.

Noun   The part of speech that an object must be.

Transitive   The type of action verb that expresses action on an object.

Intransitive   The type of action verb that does not have an object.
