In 460 B.C., who came to power and what did they change?   Pericles came to power and he payed people to serve in the government and as juries. This allowed poor people to have more time since the government would pay them. This allowed all citizens (rich and poor) to give more focus and energy to improve Athens

Democracy of Athens   Direct democracy: all people participate in all decisions and outcomes. Every citizen could speak their opinions. No checks and balances. Women and slaves could not vote, only free men could.

Democracy in the US   Representative Democracy: Citizens vote for representatives to make decisions. Separation of powers between legislative, executive, and judicial. Men and women who are citizens can vote
