1. Describe the three types of scientific models.   • Conceptual models are systems of ideas or analogies to explain an idea. • Mathematical models use equations and data to explain an idea. • Physical models use tangible (touchable) items to visually represent an idea.

2. Distinguish between a theory and a law.   • A theory is an explanation that ties together many hypothesis and observations, while a law is when that explanation is proven to be true.

3. Define hypothesis.   • A hypothesis is an explanation that is based on prior scientific research or observations and that can be tested.

4. Define mathematical mean.   • The average of all the numbers in a data set.

5. Define mathematical median.   • The middle number of a data set, when the numbers are arranged in order. If there are two middle numbers, the median is the average of the two.
