---|---|---|---|---|---|
Classification | The division of organisms into groups, or classes, based on specific characteristics
🗑
Taxonomy | the science of describing, naming, and classifying organisms
🗑
Genus | The first part of the scientific name, begins with a capital letter
🗑
Species | The second part of the scientific name, begins with a lower case letter- any organism that can mate and produce fertile offspring
🗑
Binomial nomenclature | Two part name, genus and species
🗑
Taxonomic/Dichotomous Key | Give two pairs of statements to identify an organism
🗑
Six Kingdoms | Archaebacteria, Eubacteria, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia
🗑
Archaebacteria | Unicellular, Prokaryote, Autotrophic, Heterotropic, Asexual, Sexual-conjugation, found in extreme environments
🗑
Bacteria/Eubacteria | Unicellular, Prokaryote, Autotrophic, Heterotropic, Asexual, Sexual-conjugation, examples are strep, E. Coli, Salmonella
🗑
Protists- plant, animal, fungus like | Mostly unicellular, multicellular (some form colonies), Eukaryote, Hetrotrophic, Asexual and sexual, examples are amoeba, alge, protozans
🗑
Fungi | unicellular, multicellular (mostly), eukaryote, hetrotrophic, asexual (budding) sexual (spores), examples are molds, mildew, yeast
🗑
Plants | multicellular, eukaryote, autrotrophic, Repoduction is Sporophyte and Gametophytes, examples are Novascular, Vascular, Flowering, Cone Bearing
🗑
Animals | Multicellular, Eukaryote, Hetrotrophic, most sexual (internal and external) some asexual, examples are vertebrates and invertebrates
🗑
What are the 3 Domains | Archaea, Bacteria, Eukarya
🗑
Archaea Domain | prokaryotes (most of which are known to live in extreme environments) that are distinguished from other prokaryotes by differences in their genetics and in the makeup of their cell wall;
🗑
Bacteria Domain | extremely small, single-celled organisms that usually have a cell wall and that usually reproduce by cell division (singular, bacterium)
🗑
Eukarya Domain | in a modern taxonomic system, a domain made up of all eukaryotes; this domain aligns with the traditional kingdoms Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia
🗑
What are the 8 classification levels? | Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species
