How do you check an unconscious person?   You use the AVPU scale

What is the AVPU scale?   A: Aleart-Can carry on a conversation and is aware of their surroundings V:Verbal- Only responds to you when you give them a command P:Pain- Only respond to you when you cause mild pain U:Unresponsive-does not respond to you at all

If the person is alert what should you do?   Ask them questions such as what happened, what is wrong, what medical problems do they have, and so on. Make sure they do not move anything that hurts.

If the person is verbal what should you do?   Ask the same questions from the alert section, call 9-1-1, and be prepared to give care.

If the person is experiencing pain what do you do?   Call 9-1-1, ask bystanders what happened, and monitor them, if they become unconscious give care.

How to apply pain?   Ear-lobe pinch, sternum rub (nuckle to chest), and nail bed pinch.

What do you do if the person is unresponsive?   Call 9-1-1, Check their ABC's, and give CPR if there is no breathing.

What is ABC?   A-Airway B-Breathing C-Circulation
