cell processes

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Term
Definition
Diffusion   Materials move from a high concentration to a lower concentration until equal on both sides. A form of Passive Transport because no energy is needed to do it.
🗑
Osmosis   Movement of water by diffusion. A form of Passive Transport because no energy is needed to do it.
🗑
Active Transport   When the cell uses energy to go from a lower concentration to a higher concentration - against equilibrium. (engulf or use transport protein to carry in or out) (ex.bone cell bringing in calcium)
🗑
Aerobic Respiration   When you eat and breath in oxygen to make ATP energy for your cells.
🗑
Anaerobic respiration (Fermentation)   A form of cellular respiration that occurs when oxygen is absent or scarce. Lactic Acid builds up and causes pain. (Runner in marathon)
🗑
Metabolism   All the chemical activities in the cell that make new molecules and bread down molecules for the cell to use. (lysosome, ribosome, mitochondria are examples you know)
🗑
organelles that do metabolism   lysosome- break down and recycle ribosome- make protein mitochondria- break glucose and oxygen apart to get ATP energy
🗑
How do Amoeba get food into their cell   Engulf it by surrounding it with its cell membrane- Psudopods. This is Active Transport because the Amoeba must use energy to do this.
🗑
examples of diffusion   when you smell cookies baking in the kitchen from the front door, color of the tea from a tea bag in hot water,
🗑
examples of osmosis   water coming into a cell, soak in a bath until water enters your skin and you wrinkle.
🗑
Transport Protein   A protein that will carry a molecule in or out of a cell. This is Active Transport because it requires the cell to use energy to do this.
🗑
solute   the substance that is dissolved in water.
🗑
passive transport   movement of material across a membrane or in a space without using energy
🗑
solution   the solvent and solute mixture
🗑
solvent   the liquid you dissolve the solute with
🗑
equilibrium   when the concentration is equal on both sides of a membrane or in a space
🗑
selectively permeable membrane   membrane that allows some things through and not others
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
