Physical Geography of ancient civilizations vocab

TermDefinition
Mountains A mountain is a large hunk of rock that has steep sides and usually has snow on top.
Hills A hill has a rounded top instead of a pointed top and it is smaller than a mountain.
river A river is a natural stream of water that flows on land, or through caves.
desert Deserts are ecosystems that can get very hot or very cold at times. They usually have little to no vegetation and food, and it is really hard to survive in a desert.
cataract A cataract is a large waterfall.
sea A sea is a body of saltwater similar to a ocean.
gulf An area of the sea almost completely surrounded by land with a narrow opening.
oasis An oasis is a spot and/or area of freshwater in a dessert or dry and barren land.
delta A delta is a triangular area where a major river divides into several smaller parts that usually flow into a larger body of water.
Valley A valley is a low area of land between hills or mountains.Typically formed from erosion by glaciers, rivers, or tectonic activity.
