| Perceptual Region | defined by people’s feelings and attitudes and areas |

| Crust | rocky surface area |
| Lithosphere | surface features of the earth including soil, rock, and landforms |
| Atmosphere | layer of gas, water vapor, and other substances above the earth |
| Hydrosphere | the water contained in the oceans, lakes, rivers, and under ground |
| Biosphere | the world of plants, animals, and other living things in the earth’s land and water |
| Continent | any of the Earth’s seven large landmasses of the earth’s surface |
| Plate Tectonics | theory that the earth’s outer shell is not one solid sheet of rock |
| Ring of Fire | a circle of volcanoes surrounding the Pacific Ocean |
| Weathering | the breakdown of rock at or near the earth’s surface into smaller pieces |
| Mechanical/Physical Weathering | the breaking up or physical weakening of rock by forces such as ice and roots |
| Chemical Weathering | the altering of a rock’s chemical makeup by changing the minerals that form the rock or combining them with mew chemical elements |
| Acid Rain | when chemicals in the polluted air combine with water vapor, falling to the earth |
| Erosion | the movement of weathered material, such as gravel, soil, and sand |
