Physiology of PNS

Divisions of the nervous system: Central nervous system (CNS) Peripheral nervous system (PNS)
Divisions of the peripheral nervous system: (1) the somatic motor system and (2) the autonomic nervous system.
Divisions of the autonomic nervous system: Parasympathetic and Sympathetic
What does the somatic nervous system control? The somatic nervous system controls voluntary movement of muscles.
Main functions of the autonomic nervous system: (1) regulation of the heart; (2) regulation of secretory glands and (3) regulation of smooth muscles.
What are funtions of the parasympathetic nervous system? •Slowing of heart rate •Increased gastric secretion •Emptying of the bladder
Funtions of the parasympathetic nervous system: •Emptying of the bowel •Focusing the eye for near vision •Contracting bronchial smooth muscle •Constricting the pupil
