Scientific Method
| Question | Answer |

| Scientific Method | Precise, orderly system of conducting an experiment |
| Independent Variable | This is what you change in a test; the variable you are testing; there is only one in an experiment |
| Dependent Variable | The variable you measure to see if it is effected by the independent variable; what happens because of what changed |
| Hypothesis | An educated guess |
| Control Group | Standard of comparison; the level that does not include independent variable |
| Problem | Reason for doing an experiment; usually expressed as a question |
| Prodedure | Directions for conducting an experiment; usually written in numbered steps |
| Observations | What a scientist sees, hears, feels, smells during an experiment |
| Data | Observations collected and recorded during experiments, usually in the form of a table or graph |
| Conclusion | Summary of what you learned in experiment; states whether hypothesis was accepted or rejected |
| Qualitative Data | Descriptive observations made using senses; do not include numbers or measurements |
| Quantitative Data | Obersvations made with measurements or counts; always include numbers |
| Inference | A guess based on prior knowledge or experience |
