Map Skills

QuestionAnswer
What is a political map? a map that shows cities, states or countries
What is a physical map? a map that shows landforms, bodies of water, or resources
what is latitude? lines that cross the globe from east to west
what is longitude? lines that cross the globe from north to south
what is the equator? 0 degrees line of latitude (runs east to west)
What is the Prime Meridian? 0 degrees line of longitude (runs north to south)
What is a Compass Rose? a tool used to find directions on a map
What is a legend or map key? a tool (usually a box) found on a map that has a list of symbols, and a definition of what each symbol means, like capital or highway names, etc
What are the Rocky Mountains? a mountain range that is found in the western part of the United States
What are the Appalachian Mountains? a mountain range that is found in the eastern part of the United States
