First Stage of Labor? | Longest stage typically lasts 12-14 hours for first child. Regular and increasingly frequent uterine contractions cause the cervix to dilate, or widen, in preparation for delivery |
Second Stage of Labor? | Lasts up to an hour or two. Begins when the baby’s head begins to move through the cervix into the vaginal canal, and it ends when the baby completely emerges from the mothers body |
Third Stage of Labor? | Lasts 10-60min. The placenta and the remainder of the umbilical cord are expelled from the mother |
