ANALGESIC Meds w/pain relieving properties
ANESTHESIA Loss of sensation, either of the entire body or of certain body areas
ANOREXIANT Stulant for short-term treatment of obesity
NEURON Nerve cell
GRAND MAL SEIZURE Generalized Tonic / Conic seizure
Petit Mal SEIZURE Absence, loss of consciousness for a short time , 10-30 sec. may be mild as only eye blinking. mild to no motor activity.
CLONIC Pertaining to alternative contracting & relaxing muscles.
TONIC Pertaining to muscular tension or contraction - continuous tension.
ADRENERGIC (Sympathomimetic) Agent or agonist agent that stimulates the action of the sympathetic nervous system or mimics the sympathetic NS.
PHYSICAL DEPENDANCY Due to extended use, drugs have affected normal body function & discontinuation results in withdrawal symptoms.
CHOLINERGIC (or parasympathomimetic) Drug that mimics parasympathetic NS ; agent that acts to transmit nerve stimulations in paras... NS. Constriction of pupil in eye.
PARASYMPATHOLYTIC (anticholinergic or cholinergic blocking agent) Agent that blocks the action of the parasympathetic NS feed or breed
SYMPATHOLYTIC (adrenergic blocking) Agent that blocks the action of the sympathetic nervous system. flight or fight
SPASTICITY A phenomenon in which uncoordinated movements are caused by CNS over stimulation. the loss of dexterite, spasm & increased muscle tone characterized spasticity. muscle relaxants of no use. DRUGS: BACLOFEN / G=Lioresal, DANTROLENE G=dantrium
NEUROHORMONES Hormones found in portions of the nervous system such as the catecholamines.
