Chem Periodic Tab

Talbert Periodic Table

QuestionAnswer
Periodic Table horizontal rows and vertical columns of elements losted om order atomic number
Element Simple substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances
Chemical symbol shorthand way of writing the names of elements
Family - Periodic Table aka as group - Vertical column of elements in periodic table - have similar physical and chemical properties
Period - Periodic Table Horizontal rows on periodic table - elements in rows have the same number of electon shells or orbits
Metals Make up most of the periodic table -Properties solids at room temperature, shiny (luster), can be shaped (malleable), is ductile (made into wire), conductors
Non Metals Make up right side of periodic table - Properties- dull, easily broken (brittle, poor conductors, at room temp can be solid, liquid or gas
Inert Gases aka Noble gases - Family 18 - These gases are all inactive and do not react with other elements
Atom smallest part of an element that can be identified - has t3 parts protons, electrons, neutrons
Proton in nucleus of atom - has positive charge
Neutron in nucleus of atom - has no charge (neutral)
Electron outside nucleus of atom (in electron cloud/orbit) - is negative in charge - very light weight and always moving
Atomic Number = to number of protons and to number of electrons - different elements have different numbers of protons,
Atomic Mass protons plus neutrons = Total mass of atom - always round this number before using
Valence electron Number of electrons in the outermost (outside) energy shell - is same as the family/group number

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
