Chap 6 Learning
Classical Conditioning
Question | Answer |
---|---|
learning | the modification throught experiences of pre-exisiting behaviors and understanding |
learning 2 | plays a central role in development of most aspects of human behaviors |
reflex | a switft, automatic response to a stimulus |
reflex ex | shivering in the cold or flinching when you are jabbed with a needle |
Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS) | the thing that can already elicit a response |
UCS ex | meat powder |
classical conditioning | a procedure in which a neural stimulus is repeatedly paired with a stimulus that already triggers a reflex-like response until the neural stimulus alone comes to evoke a similar response |
unconditioned response (UCR) | the automatic or unlearned reaction to a stimulus |
UCRex | salivation |
conditioned stimulus (CS) | the orginally neural stimulus that, through pairing with the unconditioned stimulus, coes to elicit a conditioned response |
CS ex | tone |
contioned response (CR) | the response that the conditioned response |
CR ex | salivaition 2 |
extinction | the gradual disappearance of a conditioned response when a condtioned stimulus no longer predicits the appearance of the unconditioned stimulus |
spontaneous recovery | the reappearance of the condtioned response after extintion and without futher pairings of the conditioned and unconditioned stimuli |
spontaneous recovery 2 | even after they have been extinguous |
stimulus generalization | a phenomenon in which a condtioned response is elicited by stimuli that are similar but not identical to the conditioned stimulus |
stimulus discrimination | a process through which individuals learn to differentiate among similar stimuli and respond approaitely to each other |
