how should amphotericin B be administered to patient infuse slowly. do not mix with normal saline/mix with D5W. check vital signs during infusion. prophylaxis with benadryl or acetaminophen may be necessry to prevent infusion related side effects
amphotericin B side effect phlebitis is common and may cause nephrotoxicity
antifungal brand/generic & use ANCOBON (flucytosine) given synergistically with amphotericin B to treat systemic candida and cryptococcus infections
ANCOBON (flucytosine) side effects rash gi upset
antifungal(triazoles)---name drug-used for VFEND (voriconazole) is an alternative to amphotericin B for life threating infections
VFEND (voriconazole) also know as conazole side effect liver toxicity or blurred vision
VFEND (voriconazole) warnings DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT
VFEND(voriconazole) if you are taking phenytoin what could happen cause need for increased dose(excreates to guickly)
antifungal (triazoles)---name drug-used for DIFLUCAN(FLUCONAZOLE) one day does for yeast infection
DIFLUCAN(FLUCONAZOLE) side effect hepatotoxicity (most antifungla cause liver damage)
antifungals(triazoles)---name drug-used for SPORANOX(itraconazole) Most common for nail infections
SPORANOX (itraconazole) warnings take with fatty meal, no antacids or h2 blockers.--CONTRAINDICATED CHF (congestive heart failure)
antifungal (triazole)---name drug--used for NOXAFIL(posaconazole) Prophylaxis for immunocompromised patients (prevents fungal infection in hiv patient)
NOXAFIL (POSACONAZOLE) warning TAKE WITH FOOD
antifungal OTC--name and use LAMISIL (terbinafine) orally for nail infection.
LAMISIL (TERBINAFINE) DOSAGE FORM orally -nail infection, topically - athlete's foot, jock itch and ringworm
LAMISIL (terbinafine) side effects CYP 450 INHIBITOR- MAY CAUSE LIVER AND KIDNEY DAMAGE, STEVENS-JOHNSON syndrome
ANTIFUNGAL OTC--NAME AND USE LOTRIMIN ULTRA (butenafine) jock itch, athlete's foot and ringworm (better) TOPICAL
