what is culture? The arts, customs, and habits that characterize a particular society or nation.
What are culture traits? activities and behavior that people often take part in
What is a culture region? an area in which people have many shared culture traits
What are ethnic groups? human population that shares a common culture or ancestry
What is acculturation? when an individual or group adopts traits from another culture
what is innovation? new ideas that a culture accepts
What is a death rate the number of people that die each year
what is a birthrate? the number of people born each year
what is migration? moving from one place to live in another place
what is diffusion? an idea or innovation thatg is spread from one person or group to another
what is globalization? connections around the world increase and the world become more alike
what is demography? the statistical study of human populations
population density the average number of people living in an area
push factors makes people want to leave their current location
pull factors attracts people to a new location
immigrant people who come to a new country to live
emigrant people who leave one place to go to another
refugees people who are forced to leave and cannot return to their homes
traditionalism The adherence to traditional views or practices, especially with regard to cultural or religious matters.
fundamentalism The tendency to reduce a religion to its most fundamental tenets, based on strict interpretation of core texts
dialect language of a particular area
lingua franca a common language used by people of diverse backgrounds to communicate with one another
ethnic religions religion that appeals primarily to a specific group of people from a specific place
animist religions belief held in many religions around the world
polytheism The belief of the existence of many gods
universalizing religions a religion that attempts to operate on a global scale and to appeal to all people
monotheism belief of a single god
missionaries A person who travels attempting to spread a religion
mosques a place of worship for muslims
hajj The pilgrimage to Mecca made by pious Muslims; one of the five pillars
assimilation the merging of cultural traits from previously distinct cultural groups
