What is Population density? The average number of people living in an area
What is Demography? The statistical study of human population
What is Birthrate? The number of births per year per 1,000 people
What is death rate? The total number of deaths per year per 1,000 people
What is Migration? The process of moving from one place to another
What are Emigrants? People who leave a country to live somewhere else
What are Immigrants? People who come to a new country to live
What are push factors? Something causing people to leave an area
What are pull factors? Something causing people to want to move to a new area
What are refugees? People who have been forced to leave their homes due to push factors
What is Culture? All the features of a persons way of life
What are culture traits? Activities that often ppl take part in
What is Culture region? An area in which many people have many shared culture traits
What are ethnic groups? A human population that shares common culture or ancestry.
What is acculturation? When an individual or group adopts some of the ideas of another culture.
What is innovation? the invention of new ideas that another culture accepts
What is diffusion? when an idea or innovation spreads to another culture
What is Globalization? The process in which connections around the world are increased.
What is traditionalism? The following of lifelong practices and the opposing of many modern ideas
What is fundamentalism? Any movement in which people believe in strictly following a certain set of principles
What is Dialect? A regional variety of language
What is Lingua Franca? a language of trade and communication
What are ethnic religions? Religions focused in one ethnic groups or groups
What are animist religions? Religions in which people believe in the spirits of trees and nature
What is Polytheism? The belief of many gods
what is Universalizing religion? Religions hoping to appeal to people all over the world
What is Monotheism? The belief in one god
What are missionaries? People who help spread religion
What are Mosques? Houses of worship
What is a Hajj? an Islamic pilgrimage
