|---|---|
| Antihyperlipidemics | Drugs used to lower lipoproteins |
| Peripheral vasodilators | Drugs that dilate vessels that have been narrowed by vasospasm |
| Hyperlipidemia | Excess of 1 or more lipids in the blood |
| Lipoprotein | 4 major categories: HDL, LDL, VLDL, & chylomicrons |
| High-density lipoprotein HDL | Good lipoprotein; smallest, most dense lipoprotein; contains more protein & less fat |
| Low-density lipoprotein LDL | Bad lipoprotein; 50-60% of cholesterol in blood stream |
| Very low-density lipoprotein VLDL | Mostly triglycerides & less cholesterol |
| Chylomicrons | Large particles that transport fatty acids & cholesterol to the liver |
| Apolipoproteins | Within the lipoprotein shell & contain apolipoprotein (apo) A-1, apoB, & apoE |
