Key terms for the architecture of the Earth
| Word | Definition |
|---|---|
| Anticline | A fold in a strata with very old rocks in it. |
| Asthenosphere | The lower part of the mantle, its like plastic but flows much easier than the rest of the mantle. |
| Core | Is mostly composed of iron and nickle. The center of the earth basically. |
| Crust | The top part of the lithosphere. This is the part of the earth that we live on. |
| Fault | The compressinal stress of two rocks. The rock fractures into two pieces. |
| Lithosphere | Above the asthenpsphere. About 100km thick. This includes the entire crust and the upper most part of the mantle. |
| Mantle | Sourrounds the core of the planet, a rocky layer that is about 3000 km thick. |
| Mohorovicic Discontinuity | The crust-mantle boundary. |
| Primary Waves | They compress and expand the rock as they move through it.(Earthquakes) |
| Secondary Waves | They vibrate the particles of their medium up and down and side to side. (Earthquakes) |
