Key terms for the architecture of the Earth

WordDefinition
Anticline A fold in a strata with very old rocks in it.
Asthenosphere The lower part of the mantle, its like plastic but flows much easier than the rest of the mantle.
Core Is mostly composed of iron and nickle. The center of the earth basically.
Crust The top part of the lithosphere. This is the part of the earth that we live on.
Fault The compressinal stress of two rocks. The rock fractures into two pieces.
Lithosphere Above the asthenpsphere. About 100km thick. This includes the entire crust and the upper most part of the mantle.
Mantle Sourrounds the core of the planet, a rocky layer that is about 3000 km thick.
Mohorovicic Discontinuity The crust-mantle boundary.
Primary Waves They compress and expand the rock as they move through it.(Earthquakes)
Secondary Waves They vibrate the particles of their medium up and down and side to side. (Earthquakes)
Syncline A fold in the strata that has very young rocks within it.
