What components are inside my computer?

Motherboard The "heart" of the computer
CPU Central Processing Unit; "brain" of the computer: "processor or chip"
RAM Random Access Memory; used to store information for files that are actually being used by the CPU at any given time
Graphic Card Translates information into the graphics & text that appear on the monitor screen.
Power Supply Supplies power to the other components: has a bulit fan into it to keep itself and the computer cool.
Hard Disk Hard drive; The programs and data are stored on the hard disk and the computer accesses them as they are needed.
Optical Drive DVD Drive or CD drive; uses a laser to read and write information to CD's and DVD's
Hardware Actual physical components that go into the computer.
Software Refers to programs and systems that operate within the hardware.
