Skeletals System

Diaphysis The Shaft, or middle section, of a long bone.
epiphysis the end or head at the extremity of a long bone.
Medullary Canal is a cavity in the diaphysis.
yellow marrow which us mainly fat cells
endosteum is a membrane that line medullary canel and keeps the yellow marrow in-tact.
axial skeleton forms the main trunk of the body and is composed of the skull, spinal column,rib and breastbone
appendicular skeleton forms the extemities and is composed of the shoulder gir-dle, arm bones, pelvic girdle, and leg bone
Foramina are openings in bones that allow nerves and blood vessels to enter or leave the bone.
Joints are areas where two or more bones join together.
ligments help hold long bones together at joints.
sinuses are air spaces in the bones of the bones of the skull that act as resonating chambers for the voice.
Red Marroows is found in certain bones such as the vertebrea, ribs, sternum,and cranium, and in the proximal ends of the humers and femur.
fontanels or soft spot allow for the enlargemnet of the skull as brain growth occurs
Sutures are areas where the cranial bones join together
