Phenytoin-Like Agents Mechanism of Action resemble the mechanism of action of phenytoin (sodium channel desensitization)
Phenytoin-Like Agents Adverse Effects drowsiness, sedation, GI upset, prolonged bleeding, visual disturbances, muscle weakness, bone marrow suppression, rash, fatal liver toxicity, weight gain, loss of hair, abdominal pain
Succinimides Mechanism of Action delay entry of calcum into neurons, thus increasing the electrical threshold and suppressing EEG patterns associated with petit mal seizures. Otherwise not entirely understood.
Succinimides Adverse Effects ataxia, dizziness, nervousness, headache, blurred vision, vaginal bleeding, muscle weakness, behavioral changes, abnormal liver and kidney function tests
