| High latitude climate | co;d climate lies from 60 degrees north to the North Pole and from 60 degrees south to the south pole. |
| Highland climate | cool or cold climate that varies with elevation(like high up in the moutains) |
| Tropical climate | Warm year round extends from the equator to the tropic of Cancer and from the equator to the tropic of Capricorn |
| Mid Lattitude climate | temperate climate extend from 231/2degrees north to 60 degrees north and from 23 1/2 degrees south to 60 degrees south. |
| Prevailing wind | movements of air that travel around the earth in a typical pattern |
| El Nino | Caused by the combination of temperature wind and water. Formed when cold wind occurs from the north are weak. Pacific ocean gets warmer. Occurs every 3 years. |
| La Nina | Eastern winds become strong andthe opposite of El Nino occurs -Pacific Ocean gets cooler. |
| Current | moving streams of water in the worlds oceans, which affect the climate of land areas |
| Culture | way of life of a group of people who share similar beliefs and customs. |
| Drought | long period of extreme dryness and water shortages |
| Dry Climate | Dry or partcially dry areas that recieve little or no rainfall. |
| Elevation | hieght of land above sea level. |
| Ethnic Group | people who share a common culture,language,or history. |
| Gulf | part of a large bodu of water that extends into a shortline, generally larger and more deeply intended than a bay. |
| Harbor | a sheltered place along a shoreline were ships can anchor safely |
| Hurricane | violent tropical storm with high winds and heavy rains. |
| Island | land area, smaller than a continent, completely surrounded by water. |
