Musical Terms

| Consonance | Resolution of unstable harmony; Sounding with or complementing. |
| Drone | Sustained sounding of one or several tones for harmony support. |
| Texture | Interweaving of melodic lines with harmony. |
| Monophony | Single voice music with no accompaniment. |
| Heterophony | Multiple voices elaborating one melody. |
| Polyphony | Many voice music or texture; Two or more melodic lines combined into a multivoiced texture. |
| Homophony | One voice with accompaniment. |
| Imitation | Melodic idea presented in one voice and then restated in another, each part continuing as others enter. |
